It’s been an interesting week of “re-entry” back into real life after 4 days away. I haven’t been away from motherhood for that long since I started this journey, so as relaxing as it was…it was a weird adjustment coming back. No one cooked my breakfast for me. Or made my bed. And I got slobbered on when I was hugged.

Then the server that hosts my blog crashed and I looked at a horrible “server not available” screen for almost 24 hours. STRESS-ME-OUT. I’ve poured my heart and soul into this little piece of online real estate for almost 4 1/2 years….and I hadn’t backed up in about that long. Wow, thankfully it finally came back. but lets just say by Monday morning I should have a new host and a good backup :)

In the midst of all of that, I’m reminded of what is important.
My precious family.
Making an influence on this community I’m a part of.
Being light to those around me.
Being real.

So, I show you pictures of my remote control in the toilet and my messy house. Because this is my real life.
My life that seems so easy and simple.

I’m drawn back to something that REALLY tugged at my heart last weekend at The Influence Conference. Barrett Ward from The Mocha Club spoke to us about his passion and his incredible non-profit he’s building. They have launched a new organization called fashionABLE. I’m just stoked about all they are doing. By purchasing a scarf, you are creating a sustainable business for a woman in Africa. My heart just BURSTS when I hear this.

fashionABLE

I’ll let you this video tell you their story.

As a mom of a future Ethiopian baby, I can’t even tell you how excited I get about this. FashionABLE brings these women off the streets and gives them hope. It might be one of these women some day who gives a child up for adoption and they become part of MY family. This women may be saved from a disease because of you buying a scarf. Therefore my CHILD may live a longer and healthier life. BECAUSE OF A SCARF.

As you start your Christmas shopping (what, you haven’t started yet?? shame on you.), I beg you to consider a fashionABLE scarf for the women (or men!) in your life. Take the time to read more on their web site and hear the hearts of these women.

So in the middle of crashing blogs and a chaotic home, my heart is still as I think of these precious women.
Their lives are forever changed.

  1. Perhaps buying items from organizations that provide jobs for women in Ethiopis like this one will ALLOW these MOMS to keep their children and NOT sell them to the highest bidder/adoption agency. Your future child fromEthiopia could have a life there too, with there family. Selling children is a business.

    • Candace — i understand your concern. There are people out there in the world who exploit and tear down families. But there are children with real need and there are agencies with a real heart for the gospel and for putting families first, not money. I know KK’s heart and desire — it is from God and there decision to adopt is COVERED in prayer. God is already knitting together the details. The last thing KK would ever want to do is to pull a baby away from a mother. I love what FashionABLE does. and you are right, what they are doing DOES help them take care of their families and grow a new culture of sustainable living. And there does need to be more efforts similar. thank you for reminding me to pray for organizations – adoption or otherwise who exploit and hurt. I am though so thankful for KK and people like her of whom God has called into adoption and so so with prayer and discernment.

  2. It’s ALL about the hope that it gives these women!! Redemption and grace. That’s what makes me excited. I pray that these women will be able to support their families and NEVER have to give up a child, but I know that the fact is that may not be the case. I’m just so thankful that fashionABLE gives them HOPE.

    • I admire you doing what you can to help others. I admire a person with a conviction. We have been called to do what we can. I applaud you. To make a difference for others, to do what you can, rather than simply do nothing. Bravo to you girl!

  3. KK I understand that you are driven by a sincere desire to help struggling Moms here in the US with your Mommy Blog. Also you want to help African women too, and you believe you are doing that with FasionABLE. I hope you are. You have friends who think what you do is Covered with prayer and being knitted together by God. That’s quite an annointment and a destiny. Being a bit more practical, I would say be careful. Endemic corruption in these countries distorts and thwarts the most sincere efforts at redemption and grace. Adoption organizations themselves cause Harvesting. Of children, especially babies for rich foreigners. But you must know this. Planes loaded with 14 yo girls are often loaded up and flown to middle eastern countries with a promise of a job a better life. What these girls find is sexual enslavement and bondage. Usually the families of these girls have no idea they are not returning. Just as families who give their children up often think they will be returned at some point. If God is moving you to do something about this mess, I am awed. If you are taking an African child to save it.. Maybe you will. Maybe you even should. But as it stands the system encourages this deceit of adoption. And under the cloak of God’ plan you want to participate in it wrapping it’s ugliness and deceit in sweetness and light. I hope it works out got you.
